LCpl Josh Menard
- Just days before September 11, 2001, Laura
photographed a handsome, young Houstonian, Josh Menard, on
Galveston’s East Beach as he prepared to leave Texas for the
United States Marine Corps. Although she had photographed Josh
before in other settings, these photographs were to be his
family’s treasure to remember his dedication to them as well as to
his country. |
 |
|
| In late March 2003 during the
height of the Iraq war, the world watched on live television as U. S. Marine
Lance Corporal Josh Menard relayed his front line combat war experiences to
all from a stretcher in the Iraqi Desert. They heard bits of his long
distance satellite telephone call to his mother, Elizabeth, at home in
Houston as he told her that he had been injured during heavy combat and was
awaiting airlift out of the war torn country. Laura recognized not only the
photograph that she had taken on the Texas beach as it was flashed across
the television screen on CNN, The Today Show, Good Morning America,
MSNBC, as well as the 3 local networks, but the soft southern Texas
drawl, as well, of the young Marine that she has gotten to know. Later that
summer, Laura again photographed LCpl Menard, this time proudly clad in his
Marine dress blues with the honored Purple Heart and other combat medals and
ribbons that he received during his service to our country. |

Children with Special Needs:
Because of Laura’s talent and skill in capturing life’s most tender
moments, she was requested to assist in a project with some very special
children –
photographing terminally ill
children in the last stages of their life. Laura donated her time and gave
her utmost in providing the families of these children with lasting memories
captured in their child’s last photographs. With Laura’s guidance, these
children with extensive medical needs were depicted in a natural, loving
environment surrounded by their parents and siblings for a treasured
keepsake their families will forever hold dear. Additional prints of these
beautiful portraits adorn the walls of pediatric facilities such as world
renown Texas Children’s Hospital and Pediatric Special
Care in the Texas Medical Center.
Laura has also done work for the
Blood Center, Bone Marrow Donor Program. Witnessing a Bone
Marrow donor being introduced to the family of the baby whose life was saved
because of that donor was extremely rewarding.
